Prior to the beginning of the war in Afghanistan in (Oct 7 2001) Military operations in mountainous regions were largely
handled by specialized Infantry mountain divisions,
specialized infantry Companys and special operations forces.

However over the past 9 years Military commanders have come to the realization that mountain operations & mountain operations training play a vital role in the modern theatre of warfare today.

Thus increasing the need for more specialized training
in the area of mountain operations.
